According to bitfinex.com, the largest bitcoin trading platform, the Bitcoin value is currently at 10,282 USD (29th November 2017). And with Bitcoin value soaring high, heads are turning towards Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX programs. This is due to Sahil Gupta, a former intern at SpaceX stating Elon Musk to be the original creator of Bitcoin – “Satoshi Nakamoto”. Satoshi Nakamoto is a pseudonym to identify the creator/s of Bitcoin.

Theories related to Elon Musk as Bitcoin creator

Gupta backs up his strange theory with observations made while working for SpaceX program as an intern in 2015. Musk has high competency of writing in C++; the same language of Bitcoin source code. Musk even use C++ for many parts of coding in the SpaceX program as well. In 2013, Elon Musk showed his high level of competency through the white paper on Hyperloop. Gupta further mentions in his blog;

“Experience aside, Elon is a self-taught polymath. He is repeatedly innovating across fields by reading books on a subject and applying the knowledge.”

Elon Musk and Bitcoin

Bitcoin was introduced to the market in 2008 during a global financial crisis. According to Gupta, Musk has always been eager to solve large scale global issues and this could have been a motivational factor. The introduction of a currency that does not need banks or financial institutions for transactions is more of Musk’s style.

The phrase “bloody hard” commonly used by Elon Musk during his speeches, comes up several times in the Bitcoin white paper. In 2014, Elon Musk also made a rather interesting tweet relating to Bitcoin;

However, Musk made a public statement earlier telling that he does not own any Bitcoin. But according to sources, Satoshi Nakamoto owns 8 billion USD worth Bitcoins. This is still half of Musk’s net worth, who currently values at 19.7 billion USD.

Elon Musk Tweets back

The statement from Gupta went viral on the press, major publications and social media. As a result, earlier today (29th November 2017) Musk re-tweeted back a reply denying all claims made by publications. He denies any trade or having association with Bitcoins.

There are many leading personalities that do not deal with cryptocurrencies. But Musk is a public figure who always deals with latest technologies with a futuristic vision. His efforts to improve the quality of life using technology is quite impressive. All this makes it more mysterious why he would not associate or speak about Bitcoins or Altcoins on any of his speeches or publications.

PayPal vs. Bitcoin

The destiny of PayPal could have been much different, had Elon Musk confessed to being the creator of Bitcoin. Since 2008, Bitcoin is competing with PayPal to become the leader in online payment transactions. Elon Musk is the founder of X.com which merged with Confinity to create PayPal. PayPal could have been a test run by Elon Musk before he stepped things up to implement Bitcoin. This could have led to the fall of share prices of PayPal. Also, this might have directed PayPal to its demise. Either way, Musk would have still prevailed as the master of multiple futuristic technologies.
