Announcement has been made that Ded Moroz – the Russian Santa Claus, may be considering issuing his own cryptocurrency. The position of Putin and other Russian government’s officials on cryptocurrencies is famously dubious, and if Ded Moroz is on board, there may be a collision coming.
The Russia’s President who plans to signed off on regulation of ICOs and cryptocurrency mining by July 2018, had also issued warning including details on the Russian government’s stance on cryptocurrencies, even linking the purchase with terrorism. According to the statement:
“Currently, the legal status of crypto-currency in the Russian Federation is not defined. The provision by Russian legal entities of services for exchanging “virtual currencies” for rubles and foreign currency, as well as for goods (work, services) is considered as potential involvement in the implementation of questionable transactions in accordance with the legislation on combating the legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime, and the financing of terrorism.”
This warning follows a general cooling in Russia regarding cryptocurrencies after Putin and other government officials expressed concern and even threatened bans. Nevertheless, the Russian government has laid out plans to issue their own ‘CryptoRuble’.
On his tour around Russian cities visiting the underprivileged and children’s hospitals, the Santa Claus character (who resides at a theme park in Velikiy Ustyug), Ded Moroz made it clear that he likes to keep up with the times. In an interview he said:
“I live for a very long time and do not remember how old I am, but I want to keep up with the times. Now the world is ruled by electronics, and friends advise me to release my own cryptocurrency.”
With Santa pushing a crypto agenda, those who are against the digital currencies may find themselves out in the cold this Christmas. This may include President Vladimir Putin.
Ded Moroz added that “Setting up a cryptocurrency mining operation might help with house heating back in his cold hometown.”

“There has not been a clear reason for the issuing of the cryptocurrency by Russian Santa Claus. Presently, issuing such digital currency may be for the fun or to place Putin on the naughty list.”
